May Message from the President
The weather has been in the news a lot recently. We have finally gotten some rain. This will help our watering costs but makes it difficult to mow. The condition of the field was excellent for Outdoor Kids Adventure Day. The weather was not as kind. The winds were significantly higher than desired. Daniel and Christopher Cole organized a great event with a lot of volunteers present. Dewey Walker is to be commended on refurbishing all of the club trainers in time for the event. He was able to even resurrect a retired trainer after its replacement found its way into the lake during the Wednesday night training 3 days before the event. Despite the high winds and multiple sorties, all of the trainers were still in one piece at the end of the day. That is a tribute to all of the volunteers, instructors and members that gave their time and effort on Saturday. Patrick Jacobs and others worked extremely hard to repair, refuel and prepare the trainers for their sorties. David Vilbig had the grill running most of the day. The food was excellent as usual. Bill Rutledge and Shane Allen put on flying demonstrations during the day. A lot of the guys stayed late to help with tear down and clean up. 105 students signed in and were given an opportunity to fly. The club should be proud of this event. Our new windsock is the result of the efforts of Bob Hubbard, Sheldon Timmons, Mark Engeberg and Bobby Moore. Thanks guys! We still need ideas for meeting programs. There will be a brief program in May. I know that I missed a lot of names that contributed to OKAD. Thanks to everybody that contributed. You will see many of their smiling faces in the photos. Don’t forget Mother’s Day. We will see you at the field and the meeting. See you at the field and at the meeting. |
